Diabetes affects 3.2 million people world wide and is expected to affect 380 million by 2025. There are 3.2 million people in the UK who have been diagnosed with diabetes (ref: DUK 2014) 

  • Diabetes Prevalence in the UK = 4.6%

  • 92% of people (including children) with diabetes have Type 2 Diabetes.

  • 8% of people have Type 1 Diabetes

People with Asian or African- Caribbean cultures living in this country are 4-5 times more likely to have Type 2 Diabetes than white members of the population.

It is estimated that there are up to half a million more people in the UK who have diabetes but have not yet been diagnosed.
