You will all have received notification of a shortage of Apidra for the next two months. Until the end of December only Apidra in vials will be available for all patients. Stocks of Apidra in cartridges
and pre-filled will be in very September 2011. A limited short supply and it is anticipated that these stocks will be exhausted by mid-late amount of
Apidra will be available from Sanofi on a named patient basis for certain groups of vulnerable patients. These are specified in the documents that are available to download below.
Other patients who are at risk of “running out” of supplies can be offered any of the following preparations:
- Transfer to syringe and vial using Apidra
- Transfer to Humalog Insulin in the KwikPen (pre-filled pens) or in cartridges with the Luxura Pen
- Transfer to NovoRapid in the Flexpen or as a cartridge using the NovoPen 4
It is anticipated that the majority of patients can be transferred to alternative insulin devices or preparations in their own surgery. If however you would like the UHL Diabetes Specialist Nurses to see specific patients can you please contact us on 01162584919 or 01162585545 and we will set up specific clinics in your surgeries. This will not incur any cost to your Practice.
