The ATTEND Study

The NHS Health Check programme aims to help prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.

The ATTEND study is investigating ways of identifying people who are most at risk of diabetes. The study will be looking at two methods of identifying people at risk

What are the study objectives?

  • A computer generated risk score that is calculated from information already on the patient’s medical records
  • A self-assessment risk score that is calculated from simple questions that are answered by the patient themself

The study will compare the outcome of the two groups identified as high risk in terms of:

  • Percentage who subsequently attend for a diagnostic blood test
  • Relative numbers who choose HbA1c or fasting blood glucose as the diagnostic test
  • Number of patients diagnosed with T2DM with a subsequent OGTT
