INTRODUCTION

What you eat affects diabetes, so an important part of the treatment is to follow a healthy diet. This section aims to give advice on how to help control the sugar in your blood by eating the right types of food. (These are guidelines, for more detailed dietary advice please contact your Diabetes Specialist Dietitian.)

Its time to take control of your diabetes and one of the best ways to manage your diabetes is by losing weight. Not only will it make a difference to your health, but you’re day to day living. Making realistic long term changes to your lifestyle can be hugely rewarding.

Try to aim for a healthier well balanced diet to help lose weight

You will find information about the foods you should try to reduce and the health risks associated with eating fatty, salty and sugary foods. Hopefully the information will motivate you to help yourself control your blood sugars, become healthier, feel better and perhaps lose weight.

Most of the information contained in this section has been derived from with permission from the Leicestershire Nutrition and Dietetic Service (LNDS) NHS website and the Diabetes Specialist Dietitians UHL
