If you have been diagnosed with diabetes it is essential that the right treatment is given to control your diabetes and help reduce the risk of developing further complications. It is important that your blood sugar levels are brought down to the normal level; of between (4-7 mmol/l) as your body is unable to deal with increased levels of blood sugars which will make you feel ill. In order to do this there are several types of treatments that are available and are specific to the diabetes you have been diagnosed with.
There are multitudes of treatment available to control Type 2 Diabetes.
It is important that you take responsibility for taking your medicine at the correct times and the correct doses as prescribed by your Diabetes Team.
It is important to make a note of all your medication, the dosage you are prescribed and the times when you have to take them and that you do take your medication. It is a good idea to record this in your Personal Diabetes Handbook
Points To Remember
Make sure you take the specified dose of your tablets/ insulin at the right times.
DO NOT STOP taking tablets/ insulin unless you have been instructed to even if you are unwell (See During Sickness)
If you forget to take your diabetes tablets, if it is within 1 or 2 hours then take the tablet. If it is longer, miss that dose and take your next tablet at the usual time.
Never double your dose because you have missed a tablet.
Don’t forget about healthy eating and exercise just because you are on tablets. If you are able to lose some weight, increase your activity levels and change to a healthier diet. You will receive more benefits and by combining the above you will achieve better control!
