Leicestershires’ University Hospitals of Leicester hosts the Local Network for the South East Midlands (SEM LRN).

One of the 6 topic specific research networks established by the UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN)and Department of Health. to support the delivery and conduct of clinical diabetes research.

The six topic specific research networks are:

  • Diabetes
  • Stroke
  • Medicines for Children
  • Dementias & Neurodegenerative Disease
  • Cancer
  • Mental Health

    The South East Midlands Diabetes Research Network (SEM LRN) is one of the eight (8) Local Research Networks coordinated and governed by the UK Diabetes Research Network (UKDRN).

    THE SEM DIABETES LOCAL RESEARCH NETWORK

    The local network is directed by two clinical leads, who are committed to expanding diabetes research across the region in both Primary and Secondary care. It has a dedicated Network Manager, Administrative Support and a diverse Clinical Team working across the Secondary/Primary care interface.

    AREA WE COVER

    Our region covers Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire. In each of these sites we have a nominated Locality Clinical Lead:

    Each LRN is governed by the central Diabetes Research Network Coordinating Centre (DRNCC) which is based centrally in London.

    The Diabetes Research Network Coordinating Centre (DRNCC) is the first point of call for any sponsor wishing to place a research study or clinical trial through the Network. See website or Tel: 0207 594 3397 Fax: 0207 594 3392

  • General Practitioner
    If you are a GP with an interest in diabetes research and would like to be affiliated with the SEM Diabetes Network or simply find out a bit more about us, please contact Alison Caputo below or alternatively please complete the questionnaire at the end of the page and return via email or post to Alison. (See details below).

    This will help us to log your interest on our database and identify your preferred area(s) of research practice.

    Please note that any information held on our database is strictly confidential and will not be shared with any third party without your express permission. Please feel free to circulate the questionnaire to any other colleagues you think may be interested.

    Being an affiliated practice we would approach you about recruitment of patients into research studies and trials, provide training and mentorship for practice staff and help lessen the burden on practice capacity to deliver research by sending our specialist research nurses into the practice to help with study related tasks.

    Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care- (CLAHRC) Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland (LNR) is one of the nine (9) NIHR Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRCs) established to undertake high-quality applied health research focused on the needs of patients and to support the translation of research evidence into practice in the NHS.
